The first semester ends with a review the plagues of Egypt and a study of the Passover including a Passover meal in class. The second semester begins with studying the tabernacle and the Levitcal priesthood. We conclude with marching orders from Mt. Sinai in Numbers and finish up with the book of Deuteronomy. Each semester the students will select a project to be presented in class. Weekly assignments will include Bible readings, worksheets, charts, word studies and maps.                                                     ART

Art 1 (Ages 8-11) Cindy Johnson - We begin with a short study of art history based upon the Cornerstone curriculum and Frances Schaeffer’s book,“How Shall We Then Live?” We will study shifts in style from period to period to see art in the flow of history. Students will learn that the changes in art indicate changes in worldview, and begin to understand how to be good judges of art. In this class, this means we look at a lot of pictures of great art and discuss them. Students always enjoy this and it doesn’t take them long to form and state their own opinions! After this, the class is hands-on as we learn the basic elements of art: space, line, shape, texture, value, etc., and progress to color, learning more complex techniques. We begin with pencils and progress to ink pens, watercolor pencils and various other color mediums. Students will learn how to see, and how to draw what they see. The majority of their work will be from looking at real objects, copying great works, and using their imaginations. There will be many surprises and games thrown in to keep them guessing and excited. There will be weekly assignments. Homework: 1-2 hours per week, depending on student’s personal interest. To register, please fill out the registration form and send along with a check for $115.00 (see breakdown) to Cindy Johnson, Five Catfeet Court, The Woodlands, TX 77381. $45.00 = one month’s tuition and $70.00 = one semester supply fee. All supplies purchased will be given to the students to keep; I will also have a short list of supplies for you to purchase. You may contact her at 281-734-3362 or crazymomma100@yahoo.com.

Art 2 (Ages 12-14) Cindy Johnson - Class begins with a study of art history based upon the Cornerstone art history curriculum and Frances Schaeffer’s book, How Shall We Then Live? Studying art periods through history, we learn that changes in art reflect changes in worldview, and how to distinguish worthy art from bad art. Students will begin with pencil and proceed to India ink with bamboo pens, then with brushes. After this, students will work with various colored mediums including colored inks. We will enjoy great paintings and sometimes copy them. We will study the basic elements of art and continue on to color, balance, viewpoint, emphasis, and much more. Students will learn to both draw what they see and use their imaginations. This is a messy and very fun class, and will include many surprises along the way. There will be weekly assignments, and grading will be based upon completion of same, not upon artistic talent. Homework: 1-2 hours weekly. Contact Cindy at crazymomma100 [at] yahoo [dot] com or 281-419-7963. To register, please fill out the registration form and send along with a check for $115.00 ($45.00 plus $70.00 semester supply fee) to Five Catfeet Court, The Woodlands, TX 77381.

High School Art (Ages 15 -18) Cindy Johnson Class begins with a study of art history. Study will be similar to that as stated in Art 1, but much more in-depth. We will progress through time periods covering Christian, Byzantine, Pre-Renaissance, Renaissance, Reformation, Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, etc. all the way up to modern times. We will continually discuss how to distinguish worthy art from bad art – not just fine arts, but books, movies, music, etc. The majority of the class will be learning the elements of art and moving to composition, studies of depth, one- and two-point perspective, atmospheric perspective, proportion, etc. During the year, we will use pencils, artists’ pens, vine and compressed charcoal and watercolors, do metal embossing, and encounter a number of surprises along the way. Students will learn how to see, and how to draw what they see. The majority of their work will be drawn directly from life; in addition they will copy great works, manipulate and use pictures and photos, and draw from their imaginations. There will be weekly assignments, and grading will be based on completion of these. Note: grading will NOT apply to a student's artistic ability, but that student's inclusion of all assignments in his weekly work. Cost for supplies will be $70.00 per semester. Students will be asked to bring easy-to-obtain supplies to class. Homework: 1-3 hours/week. Two credits: One high school fine arts credit, one art history credit. Class cost: $45.00 per month, 1 1/2 hour class per week. To register, please fill out the registration form and send along with a check for $115.00 ($45.00 plus $70.00 semester supply fee) to Cindy Johnson, Five Catfeet Court, The Woodlands, TX 77381. Anatomy and Physiology Anatomy & Physiology (A&P) – high school, college preparatory – K. Garza
Pre-Requisites: Biology and Chemistry recommended (Does not have to be Apologia) Apologia curriculum The Human Body: Fearfully & Wonderfully Made!,
PURCHASE: Book set (text + solutions manual) & companion CD PLUS - Kapit/Elson The Anatomy Coloring Book, 3rd Edition; Link to Supplies List
2012-13: The text covers both the anatomy & the physiology of the human body’s 11 organ systems in detail.  There are 16 modules, which translate into 32 weeks of work to cover in 30 weeks, so students will have a reading and work assignment to complete prior to our first class.  Combined with biology, the two courses together cover most of the "advanced placement" (AP) curriculum.  With some additional prep, such as Princeton's "Cracking the AP Biology" or "Cracking the CLEP Biology" study books, students can best prepare to take the biology AP or CLEP test.
In order to take this course, it is strongly recommended the student have completed a first-
year biology course AND a first-year chemistry course.  It does not have to be with the Apologia curriculum.          If a student has not completed these courses, approval must be obtained from the teacher prior to registration.
The Human Body contains labs covering topics such as salivary glands, epithelials, the dermis and epidermis, hair follicles, bone tissue, skeletal muscle tissue, neurons and neuroglia and much more. In addition, there are coloring book exercises that contain detailed drawings of all of the anatomy the student needs to learn in this course.  Dissections for this course include a cow’s eye, a cow’s heart, and a fetal pig.  Additional dissections are added to enhance the curriculum.
The Human Body: Fearfully and Wonderfully Made! contains three kinds of labs:
1. Microscope labs
2. Dissection labs
3. Coloring Book Exercises - These are probably the most important 'lab' exercises for the student to perform. This is the same coloring book used in many university Anatomy and Physiology courses.
Students will be given an outline of course work required to complete as school work, which will include the student correcting and grading work that will be turned in for review.  The focus is mastery of the subject and the best way to learn is to do; therefore the course incorporates two projects that are used for test scores for those modules.  The grading system for each project is given in advance.  Participation in an approved science fair is optional for additional credit.  All course work is required to be kept organized in a notebook, which will be graded each semester.

PURCHASE: Some materials to be used as curriculum will be purchased during the course.  It is recommended to budget $80 to use for this purpose.  Link to Supplies List
2013-2014:  This is a brand new pilot course for upper high school that is combining the study of geology with the study of astronomy.  Two subjects that burst open the study of our universe and what it is made and how it works.  These topics also allow us as a class to have open discussions about controversial subjects such as evolution, young earth versus old earth, and how the universe was created.  Science is a window into who God is and we get to gaze in to see what we can discover and find out how to defend what we believe.  The objective is to wrap up the school year with a field trip to the George Observatory in Brazos Bend State Park.  This course is set up as a student driven exploration and discovery of geology and astronomy with the students building their curriculum in their notebooks with the material they are directed to find in pursuit of their studies.  This is a model used in some college courses.  There will also be heavy use of the Internet with some sites being used throughout each semester as resources and study material, so it is required for students in this class to have easy, trouble free access to the Internet during the week when they are accomplishing their school work.  This college-prep science course is designed for the student who has completed algebra and preferably has also had an introduction to geometry, along with a successful completion of two science courses with labs.  All course work is required to be kept organized in a notebook, which will be graded each semester.  This will be a new adventure we get to take together.
Class size: Min. 6 students, max. 12.
